Our environment is an important tell of our lives. The way we develop is influenced by many factors such as the way we be raise, the schools we attend, the tightfistedness we live in, or sparing status of our parents. Everything around us influences us in some form, regardless of distance. These statements puzzle me, which is why I chose the contextual perspective as my topic. The contextual perspective, as defined by Papalia, Olds, and Feldman (2004) is the view of development that sees the individual, not as a separate entity interacting with the environment, but as an inseparable range of it (p. 31 ¶ 7). Regardless of how hard we try to avoid the potency our surroundings play on our and our childrens development, we cannot. A child who is elevated in a poor neighborhood vows never to clamor in to his hometown after he leaves.
